The seventh International Legal Linguistics Workshop (ILLWS24) took place on June 25, 2024, at the University of Vienna's Faculty of Law. Organized by the Austrian Association for Legal Linguistics (AALL) and the Institute for Constitutional and Administrative Law at the University of Vienna, the workshop focused on "The Future of Teaching Language and Law."
Christian Piska from the Juridicum, Faculty of Law, opened the workshop alongside Daniel Green from the AALL. Piska's presentation, titled "Challenges of Generation Z Lawyers," was a key highlight of the event. In his talk, Piska explored the specific challenges faced by the new generation of lawyers, emphasizing that Generation Z has grown up with digital technologies, necessitating new approaches in legal education. He underscored the importance of adapting teaching methods to harness both the technical skills and traditional legal thinking required by this generation. Prof. Piska presented his first hand observations from experience, as he is a Professor for Constitutional and Administrative Law and regularly works on projects with his students.
In addition to Piska's insights, the workshop featured a diverse array of presentations and discussions on various aspects of legal and language education. Topics ranged from the integration of multilingualism and information literacy in legal education to the use of AI to enhance language teaching within the legal field. The event provided comprehensive insights and innovative approaches for the future of teaching language and law.
