Description of the research project
In his dissertation, he examines what a theory of the asylum process might look like that is guided by the philosophical concept of recognition. What becomes of its principles in an institutional context determined by the asymmetry of decision-making, the positivity of law itselft, and the instrumentality of the legal person? And how is the normative meaning of international refugee protection – that is, the possibility of recognition – transformed through these functional challenges. These questions are particularly pressing in light of the reform of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS), which he applies his philosophical findings to. At VCML, his research focuses primarily on these doctrinal aspects of the new rules.
